Živogošće
A hidden jewel of the Makarska Riviera, where Biokovo meets the turquoise sea.
Why visit Živogošće?
Živogošće is a place of unreal beauty that has captivated travelers since Roman times. This small settlement on the southern part of the Makarska Riviera consists of three interconnected villages – Porat, Mala Duba, and Blato – each offering a unique seaside experience. Here, the white pebble beaches are not just places for sunbathing, but natural masterpieces framed by the turquoise and emerald sea on one side and the dramatic peaks of Biokovo on the other.
Coves and Ancient Epigrams
What makes Živogošće special are its intimate coves, where pine trees grow almost directly out of the sea, providing natural shade throughout the day. Mala Duba is often cited as one of the most beautiful coves on the entire Riviera. Near the Mala Duba beach, right on the cliff by the sea, lies the Licinian Epigram – a Roman poem engraved into the stone more than 1,500 years ago, praising the crystal water and the beauty of the place, proving that Živogošće has been a sanctuary for hedonism for centuries.
Active Rest and Coastal Peace
For those who seek more than just relaxing on the beach, Živogošće is an excellent base for hiking and mountain biking. Numerous paths lead high into the Biokovo mountain, offering views of the Pelješac peninsula and the islands of Hvar and Brač that take your breath away. The evenings here are quiet and romantic; the local restaurants serve simple but superb Dalmatian food – from the freshest grilled fish to traditional peka – enjoyed while the only sounds are the crickets and the soft lapping of waves against the shore.
