Trogir
A UNESCO-protected museum-city where stone tells stories two thousand years old.
Why visit Trogir?
Trogir is one of the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic towns in Central Europe, with its entire old core protected by UNESCO. Situated on a small island between the mainland and the island of Čiovo, Trogir is a true treasury of art and architecture where traces of antiquity, Renaissance, and Baroque alternate at every step. Often called "Little Venice," this town offers an intimate atmosphere of intertwined alleys all leading to one of the most beautiful squares in the Adriatic.
St. Lawrence Cathedral and Master Radovan's Portal
Trogir's greatest treasure is ST. LAWRENCE CATHEDRAL, whose 13th-century portal, a work by Master Radovan, is the most significant monument of medieval sculpture in Croatia. Climbing the cathedral's bell tower rewards you with a breathtaking view of the old town roofs and the surrounding archipelago. The KAMERLENGO FORTRESS on the island's edge also dominates the city, becoming home to concerts and theater performances under the stars in summer, providing an unforgettable cultural experience in a historic setting.
Kairos and Famous Trogir Sunsets
Trogir also houses the marble relief of KAIROS, the god of the "fleeting moment" from the 4th century BC. Legend says you must catch Kairos by his forelock as he passes by to have good luck – a perfect metaphor for staying in this magical city. INSIDER TIP: Avoid the center crowds and cross the old bridge to ČIOVO ISLAND, where spacious beaches like Okrug Gornji (known as "Copacabana") are ideal for swimming. Evenings in Trogir are reserved for enjoying local specialties like Trogir "pašticada" or the famous Trogir "rafioli," as the sun slowly disappears behind the Kamerlengo walls.
